Had the pleasure to create a performance video for this incredible song by the Liverpool based BANNERS. Getting to control so many aspects of a project has been a terrifying/challenging dream of mine for quite some time. Every stage is a new endeavor, an opportunity to express, make mistakes, embrace imperfection, and be surprised by what the piece itself wants to be.

Drew Dollaz is a pioneer of flexing, a Brooklyn-based genre of street dance also referred to as bone breaking, which is characterized by rhythmic contortionist movements. A self-taught dancer, Dollaz’ signature work blends flexing with other genres of movement, including ballet, to create a transcendent hybrid of movement artistry.
From Blaine: “Erica visited NYC last year when I had just purchased my camera and wanted to do some tests. She had been wanting to make a video featuring Drew for quite some time and suggested this location at Coney Island. Unfortunately, the forecast predicted rain on the one day we had time to shoot. Instead of letting my fears -of ruining my new camera system- get the best of me, we decided to lean into it and embrace the added free production value, strapping plastic bags to my handles, viewfinder, and mattebox. I couldn’t be happier with the results. “

"Yet, even for the most brilliant of songwriters or the most talented of voices, translating that level of emotional depth to a live setting can prove to be an often-insurmountable endeavor. Well, we are happy to be the first to tell you that even in a studio session, “Torch Song” retain all its wondrously beautiful melancholy.” - Maxamillion Polo (OnesToWatch.com)

The concept was a simple homage to the classic Dylan "Subterranean" video. We decided to give this a really loose spontaneous feel like we just stumbled upon Hozier on this freezing NYC rooftop. Huge thanks to the foggy weather, zoom lens and panty hose behind the lens to create this aesthetic. Enjoy!
PS: Andrew is one of the sweetest and kindest artists I've ever worked with. I wish nothing but the biggest success for this talent.
